Following the development of the COVID-19 pandemic we have decided to create the first digital edition of the Canon Student Development Programme.

The programme will run from July to 5 September 2020 and is aligned to the 32nd edition of the Visa pour l’Image Festival of Photojournalism.

Canon will select 210 students across Europe, Middle East and Africa and offer them the opportunity to attend an intensive programme (2 - 5 September 2020) consisting of exclusive webinars with industry leaders, group portfolio reviews with international picture editors and Canon Ambassadors full access to Visa pour l’Image digital platform* of screenings and exhibitions. In July and August, the students will also be eligible for two individual mentoring sessions to help them prepare for the programme.

*Visa pour l’Image will offer full digital accreditation to this year’s Canon Student Development Programme attendees with online screenings, webinars and presentations.

Additionally, to commemorate the 2020 edition of the Student Development Programme, professionals from the media industry will select a number of images from each of the programme participants, to be published in a dedicated book. The book will be released in December 2020, in a limited edition print run of 1000 copies. It will contain a short biography of each participant and a description of the educational institution they attend. Each participant will receive two complimentary copies of the book and one copy will be delivered to the participant’s educational institution.

To apply, simply submit up to two stories (each file should not be larger than 8 MB). You can submit a variety of formats (JPEG, PNG, TIF or PDF), each story uploaded as separate files. Each one should consist of up to 20 images with a synopsis of the project. Students must be 18 or older as of May 31st 2020, enrolled or having completed the education program in the 2019- 2020 Academic year.

With the submission we will welcome a short bio, a motivation statement for attending the course, the Student ID and/or Confirmation from the School/University certifying the enrolment in the Academic year 2019-2020 and, when feasible, a letter of recommendation by his/her teacher(s).

The application is open over a period of 14 weeks, from 15 February to 31 May. Selected participants will be notified by email by 15 June.
